Ontario’s Independent Electricity System Operator’s (IESO) Demand Response Auction program helps maintain grid reliability when the demand for electricity exceeds the grid’s ability to supply it.
Participants in the program commit a certain amount of electricity they are able to curtail when the grid is stressed. When dispatched by IESO, participants reduce their energy consumption and receive payment for the energy they didn’t use.
